We're Trash for Teaching, a non-profit organization dedicated to minimizing waste and maximizing education. Located in downtown Los Angeles, we have a large warehouse full of clean, manufacturers' cast-offs that are ready to be made into art! Our "trash" ranges from empty fingernail polish bottles to yarn to old movie posters. We have hundreds of different types of materials. Our warehouse is open every Wednesday from 9 am to 4 pm. This piece is very appealing because of its simplicity in material. Its made up entirely of reused rubber and glass. The hanging support is made from recycled tree tie for landscaping, the planters are globes for outdoor lighting, and the are secured using a blown inner tube for a bicycle. I currently just have ivy growing out of them to show an idea, but I am sure you can add some even more creative life to this recycled living art. Hey everyone I know you love seeing birds and other critters outside your window, but many of us don't want to but the run of the mill feeders on the market. If you are like me you want something that is functional above all, pleasing to the eye, and of course made from recycled materials. This Friendly Feeder is made from a base of old rough cut lumber(that was sliced after weather, to be firewood),some scrap lumber strips for edges, a couple of old bowls and some saved bailing twine. This product is currently in my back yard and it attracts many birds as well as local squirrels. This wonderful piece is for all of you out there who are doing the great thing in adopting a life. This living art is crafted with driftwood from the Willamette and Mckenzie rivers, as well as the Oregon coast, tied together using scrap hemp and twine. The paintings are on scrap leather and the planters are made from a recycled dog treat jar. The top jar has a hole drilled that drains into the lower lid but I will have to remove plants from jars for shipping out of town. Archeology under the pond

This shelf piece was created from a secondhand pine shelf and reclaimed wall tiles. I used porcelain for the tree roots and miniature ceramic toy bottles for the ancient pottery. The pond design was inspired by one of the "samplePictures" that comes with windows for the PC. The shelf is very heavy so is a piece of artwork and not meant to take more weight...it has solid brass hooks for display and it made with indoor cement and grout...si is not suitable for outdoor or wet rooms.

FEBRUARY, 2010: OCEAN CITY ARTS CENTER'S 2ND REPURPOSED ART SHOW will feature the work of several artists in the NJ, PA region, as well as Chicago artists, and other work work which meets the standards of repurposed objects. In two and three dimensional display, as well as installation pieces, this work is promised to be unique, no repeating artists from the 2008 exhibit; Industrious, imaginative artists will exhibit their work for the month of February, with an opening on Friday evening, Feb. 12th, 6:30-8:30pm which is free, open to the public, with light refreshments served.
