Modern, cool and edgy handmade art from Rio de Janeiro artisan Manuel. I met Manuel at a festa and he works hard for a living on the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. I visit Brasil regularly and adore the people and culture of Rio/Brasil and thought I could give back a little by buying some of his work and help out a struggling artist particularly because his work is eco-friendly using these recycled pop-tops-very creative stuff, indeed. These are super high-quality, eco-friendly, strong and durable (with a double reinforced fabric clasp for easy opening and closing) purses straight from the world famous beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Weighing only 8 oz., with dimensions of 9"x8" and a strap length of 20 inches extending from the top of the purse, they are awesome for every day use, hitting the beach (as modeled by the lovely Carioca, Fernanda) or for nightclubbing. They are truly an intense labor of love using 640 total pop tops per purse and take hours to assemble by hand as you can imagine. Finally, they are finished with a smooth inside lining that matches the threads in either light blue, red or green-just let me know what color you want when you order. Though the gold one is pictured so you can see the inside of the bag, I am currently sold out on it. These are currently being sold in local boutiques for between $60-70 retail, so you save by dealing directly with me. Here what we have is a weird Steam-punk/Goth style artist designed piece by Chery Holmes. It has been designed entirely out of recycled good junk and is called "Moth/Goth Boy Airplane Attack". It started with a scrap of wood to which I added some found children's building block pieces to around the top edges. Next, an old rubber doll's head ( a young boy) with eerie green eyes was attached to the surface. When you lie the piece down, his eyes close as if sleeping and when it is hung on the wall, his eyes open and glow at you in a faded out, rusty kind of way. A crimped metal winged bug (moth?) hangs below his head and serves as a temporary neck. He appears trapped in time behind a black wire dome shaped screen that was once a light fixture covering. He is surrounded by scraps of maps, wood stars and a toy plastic airplane that has attacked his hair. A rusty looking set of mini binoculars (an old bubble gum machine charm) dangles from an old chain from one ear. Metal accents have been added here and there as well as touches of paint. He's unusual, but lovable and quite harmless once you get to know him. This is an original and one of a kind art piece. Ready to hang with wire and hooks on the back.

His body is a vintage xylophone and he's got vintage bowling pin legs and old ceramic boots. His head is an old red croquet ball and can be posed. He's tall and extremely thin.
